The Declaration of Independence has a great description of the freedom that you find by looking within. But there are two exceptions. First, looking within does not depend on political freedom. In fact you are so free that you are even free of the condition of the government. That means that whether the government seems restrictive or if it seems free, you can still look within and find the freedom that lies at your core.
And second, this freedom requires separating out limiting ideas so that you can stand unbounded, as the unity of all things. Self–Knowledge is not a state of standing separate but equal.
Here are a few lines from the Declaration of Independence:
When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Inalienable Rights means rights that you are born with, and which cannot be taken away. This is a great description of the state that you were born in, and the underlying state that exists even now. In fact, the freedom that you find within is so immutable that nothing can take it away, nothing physical, mental, or environmental. When you discover the freedom that wells up from the inside, you gain independence from everything that can destroy it. In other words, the fabric of your being is greater than any limitation that dances on the surface. This fabric is your identity, which cannot be scorched by limitation.
….. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
We are so used to living in limitation that we just take suffering to be normal. Here we are inviting you take up the cause of liberation by destroying your assumed limitations and returning to the state that was before you were born. This state is so vast and so free that it is even beyond the imagination of the founders of the United States. Yet this is just what you are.
