But when the goal of a society becomes merely producing more things, there are built in time bombs . First, eventually we will run out of the raw materials necessary to produce those things. Second, we are already seeing the side effects from producing more stuff. Hurricane Sandy in New York / New Jersey is a great example of the earth trying to heal itself. It seems that storms are becoming more powerful and the temperature is becoming hotter.
Things cannot deliver the happiness that you want

And third, as I often say in this blog, more stuff does not give you more happiness. That’s because stuff does not contain happiness — you do. Looking for happiness in things is a way to get strung out in addiction. When one thing doesn’t deliver the happiness that you expect, you want more and more things. And are billionaires a billion times happier than us; I’m afraid not.
You were born with nothing and you will leave with nothing. At the most things can be an aid to help you discover the real purpose of life, which is to know yourself; to find the joy that was never born and will never pass away.
How can a whole country benefit from this knowledge?
Of course when you look at it from the perspective of a whole country, many people will not feel ready to look within and find the source of wisdom and joy, the diamond hidden in their heart. But even for these people, life is more than just economic gain. There is love for their children and their connection to each other. There is a whole culture with art, music and dance. They have hobbies that they do out of love and not for money. I believe that a culture is remembered for its beauty, not for the amount of money that some people make. And as we emphasize mass production and efficiency we begin to lose the beauty that makes a culture shine.
But because of computers and other efficiencies that we have developed, we no longer have to work forty hours or more per week. Now we are in a position to share jobs. With these fortunate developments we can now take time to develop the things that make a culture beautiful. And most important, we can take the time to find our real center — the source of happiness. Standing in our real center we can develop a culture that really shines.
Asking Questions
If this blog seems a little theoretical to you, ask questions. Then you will see how the explanations in this blog apply to your life. And the freedom that you find will be real. Questioning is the key to your freedom. You’ll see that when you question limitation, it falls away.
Here questions about this article or other things going on in your life are always welcome; you can write us at michael@ananya.com. I love questions and try to answer them all in this blog. That’s because when you start to question limitation, you are on the verge of destroying it. When you can ask, you are well on your way to freeing yourself from the limitations that seem to cause your suffering. Of course, to preserve confidentiality your name will be left off.
Also for more detailed explanations and examples read through these blogs or get my book, Making Your Wisdom Come Alive.
Please Tell Your Friends
Please tell you friends. Although we don’t have an advertising budget, we hope that everyone who wants can find out about and wake up to this wisdom.
Best Wishes,
